This was my first time seeing the show Smash. It wasn’t
that interesting to me. They started the beginning from a flashback that
happened 12 hours previous. I didn’t really understand why they did that
because it didn’t add anything to the show but confusion. The scene show two of
the cast arguing about what song fit the musical and how they tried to rush the
material to the set before the play was supposed to happen. The girls in the
play were telling the leading lady to break a leg and that she would do great
right before she went on stage. It was a rocky road to get to that point
because there was so much drama going on before that.
I totally agree with you Jerica. Smash did not interest me at all either, almost like the Bechdel we had to comment on that was hard to follow because it was a comic. This musical was hard for me to follow and I didn't understand why they kept going back and having a flashback that happened 12 hours previous either, just like you. I feel the same way, it was all just total confusion for me. I did catch the part where one of the characters was a trouble maker ( or at least thats my opinion) and was doing what she could to try to get the part as Marilyn ( I kept thinking her name was Marlene for some reason, but oh well. That only shows how much I understood this musical). Im glad the producer didn't choose her because I didn't like her "style" of how she was just because she wanted to be the "top dog" of the play.
ReplyDeleteI only knew that they were looking for a replacement for someone and they never showed that person and I guess I missed somewhere down the line why she wasen't around. I thought maby it was because of bulling but I have no idea. I couldn't even compare if the lady by the name of Karen was good for the part because I dont know what the first one looked like or her acting style. I did find the music to be very emotional. It made you feel like you could connect to what they were singing. And the scene where they are sitting on the bench and singing their hearts out together did make you feel like they were connecting with each other on a "couples" term.I did get the feeling at the end of the musical though that the producer that choose the new character was in love with her or something.
